An Epiphany

Late last night I was watching a live stream on Nick Rekeita's Rekeita Law channel. It's almost three hours long, so everything you want is in the first hour, really. In that stream Ty Beard, when talking about Shane Holmberg's pathetic cry for attention in claiming he'd been served papers by Ty's law firm in the Vic Mignogna case... When asked by Rackets if he'd ever seen someone so hell bent on being a party in a lawsuit, Ty said, "I've never seen anyone get out of a lawsuit as say, 'That was fun! Let's do it again.'"

Having worked in law for a number of years, I can wholeheartedly back up that statement. Lawsuits are horrible for the parties involved and everyone feels horrible at the end, win, lose or draw. That is the ugly truth of litigation. However, Mr. Holmberg has problems. One person pointed out that he's much like the Black Knight in Monty Python's The Holy Grain, limbless, lying on the ground shouting his victory while the true victors trot off without a second thought thrown his way.

As most of you who regularly read my blog know, I've had my hobbies invaded by people who aren't even involved in them and I've had two completely ruined beyond redemption. I cannot tell you how whining, puling, harpies have torn apart the games and comics industries. They are done. They are toast and odds are I will never return to either. Indies, yes. I'll put a list of the Indie Comics I'm currently backing on IndieGoGo. That is where the true talent is. If you're an artist or writer and you work for DC or Marvel you can't afford to live off what they are currently paying. I think the best indictments have been exposed by Diversity & Comics and That Umbrella Guy on YouTube.

So, I've had games ruined and then comic books by people who don't even game or read comic books. Pisses me the hell off because... They don't even have any skin in the game, they just want to ruin it for everyone else. Yes, that is my official opinion on those idiots.

Then they went over Anime. I discovered Anime around the same time I discovered comic books. I was at my grandparents' house in California and they had cable TV. I saw Speed Racer and I was sold. In fact, it's a well known fact in my family that I wanted to name my oldest son Spridle. No lie. I admit to it with pride. I would have gotten away with it, too, if not for those meddling family members, too.

Last December an anime movie called Dragonball Super: Broly was released here in the United States. It was unbelievably popular and made Toie Animation a ton of money. Toie holds the license for Dragon Ball Z and Super. I've never, ever been into DBZ. My kids watched it, but it was one of the few that never caught my interest. Three of my four children can quote canon of DBZ as if they were lawyers preparing for a trial case.

The only reason I took note of it was because my grandson loves Dragonball Z. We didn't see it here because it came out during late December and there were far too many Holiday things to be done by everyone. So, I did what any grandmother would do, I ordered the movie so that he'd have it to watch here. By that time I'd begun to hear things about the Voice Actor who voices Broly, and has for years. I heard accusations that were frankly, so outlandish I never took them seriously for a moment, and evidently I was wise. Hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut, right?

The voice actor is Vic Mignogna. he has done hundreds of characters in anime in a career that has spanned decades. He's a conservative Christian as well.

The accusations were coming from two fellow voice actors and... the boyfriend of one woman who said they knew thousands... that's right... thousands of women he'd assaulted.

Now, she knew him over 20 years, so if you multiply 365 times twenty, you get 7,300. You can check my math. I always default to math when confused by anything. Vic does around twenty conventions per year. He has long lines of fans wanting to get his autograph, attend his panels and he is very, very wonderful with fans. By all accounts by those not jealous of his success, he's an all around great guy. But this is a guy, who, if he'd assaulted thousands of women over twenty odd years, would have hit approximately 350 or so pieces of ass at EACH CONVENTION he attended. I've factored inthe Viagra and recovery rates.

Then you look into the records and with hundreds of women being sexually assaulted at each convention he attended, because that's the only way their numbers work, and no conventions ever reported any assaults. No police reports, not even a damned Tween. Nothing. Nada. The ONLY "proof" provided are Tumblr posts which had since been deleted and Pretty Ugly Little Liars. Think about that last one for a moment and see the foundation of the legal defense once Vic sued them for defamation and tortious interference. In Texas, you don't want either of those suits against you. Ever. Ask Stormy Daniels and Mark Waid.

Which brings me back to the pathetic life of Shane Holmberg. He is the avatar of everyone involved in this, so desperate for any kind of notice he will literally say anything, utter any lie, do anything to tear Vic's life down. Anything, up to and including using the Cease and Desist sent to a true party in the case, posting pictures on a Discord Server (Lawd, save us from that stupidity. Kraut and Tea anyone?) and saying that he had been served in the lawsuit which, at the moment I publish this only involves Jamie Marchi, Monical Rial, Ron Toye and Funimation, the company that does the English dubs for much of the anime I enjoy.

Every single entity I've named in the above paragraph, in a vain search for fame, relevance, and that ever needful victim narrative, have burned a man's life down, lying their asses off to get his contracts broken, have him fired from his voice acting jobs and basically made it nearly impossible for him to earn money. He earns most of his money for his appearances at Conventions and the like. They proudly heralded all over Twitter that they, KickVic, had gotten most of his appearances for this year canceled. This was all in January.

Vic was very upset. He'd known many of the people who turned on him for decades. However, they didn't figure on one thing, the thing which, I think spurred on their envy and made their decision to burn a man's life down easy. They didn't factor in his very loyal fans. When they published pictures of him with fans at cons, claiming them as proof, the people in the pictures slapped back and gave context. Anime News Network published and article so full of lies it's now held up as the main reason no one should trust anyone in KickVic.

Vic had been thrown into a very deep hole, dug by his detractors. However, someone who likes Anime and loves his work, a fan, if you will, started a GoFundMe campaign for Vic's legal fund and found an attorney to represent him here in Texas. So far people have donated over $175,000 to pay for his legal fees. That money goes directly to an IOLTA account with Beard, Harris, Bullock & Hughes in Temple, Texas, who are representing Vic in a lawsuit against the four people I named for defamation and tortious interference. They've had one discovery hearing so far because two of the parties, Funimation and Jamie Marchi played coy with receiving service.

The biggest thing to this whole deal? None of the stupid fucks involved, except Vic, could shut their fucking yaps online. The best thing so far? The judge in the case said Vic is not a public figure. Did you know his name before you read this? I know I didn't know who he was before this. Before this, I will admit, my dub knowledge began and ended with Casey Kasem.

I still love Speed Racer. I loved G-Force when it came out in the 80s. My sister teased me horribly, but I did love it. I love Witch Hunter Robin, Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebob, Full Metal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell, Fairy Tale (don't you dare tell a soul), Tenchi Muyo and my favorite of all time, Black Lagoon. I still want to be Revy when I grow up. And those damned Cutlasses.

I have provided a link if you wish to donate to Vic's legal campaign. Please give generously if you can. The other parties have proven they are delaying everything to drain the account. I guess they never realized that they will have to pay their own as well. You live, you learn. No one should be pilloried in public with no fucking proof, none whatsoever. Especially with charges that will make his life a living hell with no due process. This is the due process he has.

Now, for that list of Indie Comics:

Lonestar: Soul of the Soldier - by Mike S Miller
The Case of the Littlest Umbrella - by That Umbrella Guy
Icarus and the Sun - by Gabriel Picolo
Downcast - by Clint Stoker
Trixie Cain: Blood Reaper - Nasser Ribadi
The Good Knight: Nightmare Realm #1 - Crystal McGhee
Brutus The Bad Ass - Donal DeLay
Cyberfrog: Blood Honey - Ethan Van Sciver

These are all of the books I'm looking forward to. Some can still be ordered if you like what you see. Personally, I'm not ordering anything until Rainbow Brute is out.
