The War of Liberal Aggression

I recently commented on a blog posting at BigHollywood. Dan Gifford writes some good stuff you can really sink your philosophical teeth in to. Evidently, Dan and I see eye to eye on the real reason behind the Civil War/War of Northern Aggression/War for States Rights. The last thing that war was about was ending slavery. Hell, Ulysses S Grant owned slaves and used them during the war. Robert E Lee owned no slaves. Neither did Jefferson Davis. General Sherman said the last reason to go to war was over slavery. And, he burned Atlanta to the ground.

I figure these guys ought to know why they were fighting and what they were fighting about. But, the Yankees said it was about Abolition so that history would look favorably upon their Pre-Progressive ways. It's so hard to justify tearing an entire country apart over trying to shove rules, regulations and policies down the throats of people "for their own good". There is no way to rationalize it.

In the past year, ever since Arizona passed their bill enabling their peace officers with arresting people they have stopped for other reasons, for being in this county illegally, that we are once again on the precipice of a countrywide schism over States Rights. Be it Obamacare or Immigration enforcement, our country is pissed off because people who consider themselves our betters want to ram crap down our throats to keep us enslaved to their good will and power base. Because they know that once you start suckling from the government teat, it's very hard, almost impossible to wean yourself off of it. They want us all to be their ballot cattle.

Secession is not a term anyone idly tosses around. Not even here in Texas where we retain the right to do so because we were our own nation before we joined the Union. Many people believe we gave that away after defeat in the War Between The States, yet we didn't. All contracts are predicated on everyone doing as they have agreed within the bounds of that contract. The Social Contract the States have with The US states that the US is bound BY THE CONSTITUTION FROM doing certain things to the people they govern. And I'm here to tell you baby, the US broke that contract over one hundred years ago and has kept on doing it all the way down the line.

No one in their right mind wanted Obamacare. Millions went to their elected REPRESENTATIVES and told them so. THEY ignored the will of their constituents and pushed through legislation that is so evil it's obscene, all the while, never reading the damned thing they were voting for. Every single representative and senator who voted for the thing ought to be recalled, sanctioned and pilloried in a public square.

They refuse to enforce our Immigration policies (I disagree with them heartily, but that is another post). They are endangering the lives of everyone that lives along the border, and our national security, yet they don't give a rat's ass because it doesn't dovetail nicely into their narrative of being American Haters, too.

Right there, in the past 3 years you see the grosses breach of contract in the history of the world and you wonder why all of a sudden, thinking minds are saying, "Secession is not necessarily a bad idea..."

Granted, Texas could easily succeed on its own. We are extremely self-sufficient and have natural resources that would make Solomon blush. Other states do not have the wealth that we do. Plus, the US would lose nearly half of its military if all the folks in Texas came back home. We supply this country with most of its warriors and I firmly believe that their patriotism would encompass their home state. If any of the Elite Progressives had an ounce of self-preservation that extended beyond The Beltway, they would realize that just one state's secession could mean the end of their political lives in DC. Some might actually have to go home to their constituents. God forbid.

So tread very carefully you Progressive Liberals. The South may very well rise again, and thanks to all that carpetbagging, we're more than capable of winning this time.

I did not know that Grant had slaves and Lee had none, but I did know, having read much about the Civil War outside of the public school system, that it was not about slavery.

As a fairly serious bible student for the past twenty years I am always struck with Paul's words when he tells slaves to serve there masters as they are serving God and slavemasters as ones who must give an account, that it would be easy for those in the South to believe they were on the side of God. Of course, school textbooks will never point this out but those of us who read the Word will take note and take it into consideration.

Robert E. Lee was a great man. He was offered a fortune after the Civil War to do an endorsement for an an insurance company and he refused. Instead he became the President of a little college in Lexington, VA that became Washington and Lee University. I have seen his tomb. I get choked up even thinking about this.

For those of you who want to know,
Shelby Foote, the boyish-looking old man from Memphis, TN, who was featured in Ken Burn's masterpiece for PBS on the Civil War has a nearly three thousand page, three volume opus that is readable and entertaining devoted to the Civil War. It took him something like twenty years to write and is well worth the couple of months it might take to read it.

How I wish high school students would read this! Instead, only those who want to know how it was will actually know history. This saddens me greatly, but life is short, I realize more every day as I age.

Keep preachin' it, sister. There is a whole new audience on the internet and you will pick up at least a few of them!

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Just a thought... Does oath breaking encompass that part of patriotism. I thought the penalty for treason in the USA was being shot in the face?

They would no longer be citizens of the USA, but of Texas, if they so chose. The decision to hold to their contract with the US would be up to them.

But I know Texas boys.

And just FYI, if you want to see the current treatment for treason, look no further than PFC Bradley Manning who is currently whining about his treatment in the Brig. And people are actually listening.

Manning has no cause for complaint.

I believe it is best summed up by a quote from the Merovingian

"It is, of course, the way of all things. You see, there is only one constant, one universal, it is the only real truth: causality. Action. Reaction. Cause and effect."

Every action or inaction has consequences, and those consequences are the choices that we make in life. Those choices define the realities that we choose to experience however much we might want to claim victim status.

While I do not necessarily agree with the actions he did, I do admire his conviction. He was just stupid to think he could get away without experiencing the consequences of his actions.
