Thus begins the second paragraph of our Declaration of Independence. A Thomas Jefferson moment is what we normally call a "DUH?!" moment. Today, I got a taste of this moment in spades. It happened as I called Fed Ex to find out why a Priority Overnight envelope had not arrived at its destination, however, the recipient had been phoned to let them know that the local Fed Ex office was holding the package for him.
So, stupidly, I guess, I call FedEx, as I was tracking the package at the same time the employee was calling me to ask me WTF?! was going on. I didn't even show that it had been scanned in at the local office after being picked up by the Fed Ex driver. I muddle through the automated voice routing and finally get through to a Customer Service Representative who was incredibly cheerful and less than helpful, since Fed Ex's own computer system was not showing it as being picked up or the initial scan in. So how did the automated system call my guy to tell him it was ready for pick up?
"Uh, I don't know."

See, this is how it works, the automated thing begins when it's scanned in and when it arrives at its destination the automated system will contact the person assigned to let them know their package is being held at the local Fed Ex office. I usually get an email before my guy gets a call. I never got any email which is why I was online tracking the freakin envelope.
So, right now, because Fed Ex Trace cannot call up the local office and tell them to look in their freakin receiving box, I have someone over there demanding they open the box and confirm they have it. How fucking hard is it to call up the office and say "Bob, I think you left an envelope in your box last night and we got a worried customer, can you take a look see so we can tell them it's found and in route now?"
No, we have to spend an HOUR on the god forsaken phone trying to find out a way to make it my damned fault for having used their stupid service in the first place.
Nobody has yet been able to explain why my guy got the phone call to tell him the package was ready for pick up.
